More live jewels can be found on this killer dvd of live clips that span their career. The 2006 “Clearing the Eye” is a great package, showing the band playing variety of rooms all over the world. Highlight is “Grinning Mouths” in Tokyo & the entire Sydney set

I had the fortune & pleasure to catch the band on 3 occasions: 2006 at Fuji Rock in Japan, playing a midday set in the blaring sun to a slowly building crowd on the final day of the festival, it was an interesting juxtaposition. That festival is an other-worldly experience... 27/
...& although not known for extreme sounds, Isis certainly held their own. It’s crazy to think of the bands headspace, just days after a headlining show for the ATP “Live V” set, to flying across the globe to play a HUGE outdoor festival as an opening act on a side stage. 28/
I can’t find footage or setlist details anywhere online, so all I have to go on is some very hazy memories of that early afternoon set.
Should u ever get the chance, don’t forgo the Fuji Rock Festival, regardless of the lineup. 29/

Second time was their final LA show at The Troubadour in 2010. I’d just relocated to LA, and was lucky enough to catch Isis at their peak. The crowd lurching in synch with their towering rhythms, a perfect wall of sound drenching every inch of the tiny, packed venue. 30/
Some great clips of that show exist, here’s one to start & you can rabbit hole your way round from there:

Reforming for a 2018 fundraiser due to the untimely & tragic passing of Caleb Scofield and assuming the name CELESTIAL, Isis played their only ever comeback show to a packed Wiltern. That entire evening was beyond emotional, one can only imagine how it was for those on stage 32/
Celestial’s set was nothing short of seismic, the walls were shaking, every head in there was moving, and the band clearly received the audience’s full embrace. It was an unmissable event, and an unforgettable show. 33/

For us, both those who were there & others not so fortunate, there stands several remarkable documentations of that evening. This pro shot video footage of the entire set from that show is just priceless. Mandatory (repeat) viewing essential. 34/
There’s also an incredible online album of killer live shots courtesy of @mrakvalentino by way of HeavyBlog.
Mark has done some shooting for @heaviestofart also, & once the world of live shows resumes you’ll be sure to see more of skills at work

The work of Isis/Celestial has left a deep impact on me, & are sounds that I connect with on primal, emotional levels. I have nothing but gratitude & respect for the members of this creative, artistic juggernaut, for the producers, engineers, & labels that helped create it. 36/
For me, the most significant post-Isis output is Turner fronted SUMAC. This sound showcases a far darker, harsher, improvisational nature than anything prior. An all-star lineup of Nick Yacyshyn on drums (Baptists) and Brian Cook on bass (ex-Botch, ex-TAAS, Russian Circles) 37/
The compositions take some persistence to penetrate, time that is rewarded with some of the heaviest dissonant grooves, inhuman rhythms and chaotic artistry laid down in the past 10 years.
