Imposter Syndrome: the disorder that f*cks up ppl who actually do the work (A thread)
Imposter Syndrome is psychological pattern in which one doubts one's accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud" (2)
It’s very prevelant in the Tech industry among minorities and women but is not limited to just that industry. I have friends across multiple disciplines/races/ethnicities/statues who suffer from it
It comes from the school of though that you don’t “know enough” or haven’t “done enough” to warrant the praise/success you’ve achieved and you live in the constant fear that someone will expose this lack of experience and you will be seen as a fraud
Even if you do the work, get the experience, make a difference...somehow imposter syndrome finds its way back to the forefront of your mind. For me it’s a constant battle because there’s always something that you may not know (knowledge is boundless)
But that’s where the cure for this disorder comes in! You will NEVER know everything. And even if it seems that the nxt person knows more than you or has done more than you they will also NEVER know everything. If that’s the case WE’RE ALL FRAUDS PARADONG AROUND AS KNOWLEDGEABLE
Be the best at what you know now and willing to accept you may never know everything BUT can still be really good at what you do. Combine that with placing weight only the validation of yourself and not others and you’ll be free.
