A thread on how Chris Coleman was responsible for Antonio Conte’s 16/17 Premier League success with Chelsea:
Chris Coleman was responsible for masterminding Wales successful Euro 2016 campaign which resulted in a semi final appearance and wins against Belgium in not only the tournament but also in qualifying.
Coleman deployed a 3 at the back with 2 attacking wing backs in Chris Gunter and Neil Taylor and a box midfield consisting of 2 holding midfielders (Joe Allen and Joe Ledley) and 2 number 10’s (Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey) behind the striker.
This allowed for Wales to be solid at the back whilst also be able to attack with numbers resulting in 2 3 goal wins in the finals against Russia 3-0 and Belgium 3-1.
Moving onto Conte’s Chelsea, they had a slow start to the season, finding themselves 8th at the beginning of October. After losing to Liverpool and Arsenal, Conte switched to a back 3 employing the same system.
He played a back 3 with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso performing the wing back roles. N’golo Kante and Nemanja Matic were tasked with the holding midfield positions. Eden Hazard and Willian were deployed in the 10 roles behind Diego Costa.
This saw Chelsea match the then Premier League record for consecutive wins at 13, en route to lifting the title.
