I really want to recommend that everyone reading this tweet pick up a copy of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart (which you can get as an ebook) and read it as soon as possible.
You should read The Normal Heart because it is an autobiographical story about a despised minority organizing to create power and agency during an epidemic. And about all the challenges and ideological differences that effort provokes.
You should read it because it's all too easy to forget what the early days of the AIDS crisis were like. Or to ignore them if you were living through them. Which is one reason Kramer wrote the play in the first place.
You should read it because its anger and grief and furious drive for a better, more inclusive world will rhyme with yours.
You should read it because in its uncompromising directness, it will likely challenge your ideas about what good art is and can be.

You should read it because it's got good jokes.
You should read it because even at its most self-serving (and it can get *really* self-serving) it has an undeniable complexity and power.
