I have confirmed the Moorish sovereign ties. Her husband tried to used sovereign citizen mumbo jumbo in federal court to get her released from a local prison late last year.

That went about as well as you'd expect.

The couple has been trying to sue local police departments in federal court for the past several months.

Based on a very quick skim, these cases started as traffic violations (fake sovereign license plate and driver's license) and escalated quickly from there.

None of this makes it right for police to physically abuse someone. It just makes the underlying investigation a bit more complex.

The sovereign beliefs may explain the couple's resistance to allowing the cops to form a perimeter around an active shooting scene, but punching someone in the head a bunch of times is not a suitable response to obstruction.
