We as a culture need to move away from the need to be "right" towards the need to be "not wrong". Let me explain.
Being Right means charging into an argument with a preexisting answer and insisting this is the correct one, no matter what. Not Wrong, on the other hand, is looking for the correct answer, whatever your presuppositions were.
It's OK to own that you were wrong, that your memory was faulty, that you fucked up. You don't have to be right. You just have to be able to adapt to whatever the actual answer was. Changing your mind should not be seen as dishonest or dishonorable. It just means that you learn.
This all goes back to pride. There is ego involved in being the first, the best, the most correct. This leads you to disaster. Don't worry about being right. Just focus on being not wrong.
