THE POWER OF WORDS

1) The saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" is wrong. Words do hurt.

Just as words can be eloquent, poetic, kind or soothing, they can also be hurtful, vicious and even devastating.
2) It can take years, even decades to heal from wounds caused by ill spoken words.

There are many bible verses on the power that words hold.

Here are a few:

"Evil words destroy one's friend; wise discernement rescues the godly".
3)

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but hard words stir up anger".

"Telling lies about others is as harmful as hitting them with an ax, wounding them with a sword, or shooting them with a sharp arrow".
4)

"You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. Yet in their hearts there is unspoken - unspeakable! -fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home,...
5)

"... all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse - a little tiny mouse! - of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic." - Winston Churchill

There are so many quotes on the power of words!
6) I will close this thread with a favorite of mine.

"Be careful of the words you say,

Keep them short and sweet.

You never know from day to day,

which one you'll have to eat."
