The imagery I see on social media of Black murders at the hands of police officers is a cause for immense and cyclical traumatization for myself and many of my Black peers. Please stop sharing them. Stop normalizing them. It is triggering, it is traumatic, it is hell.
I’m staring aimlessly, hopelessly, desperately at Black lives being intentionally taken at the hands the black mans executioner. Police. It’s the ultimate personification of evil. It’s a constant reminder of the unjustness and seething racism that plagues our society.
It is constant. It is unrelenting. It is unapologetic. Yet there is no uproar in non-POC communities. There is no storming of the castle. No desperation. They do not need to see the degradation of black bodies again & again to prove humanity is as inhumane as we cringe to admit.
Yes, I believe there is power in awareness and exposing the horrors of racism that plague society and Black America. But the retraumatization we are subject to by constantly ingesting this horrific content is debilitating. It’s terrifying. And for many, it’s also desensitizing.
I don’t want to dictate how Black people process their trauma or engage with social justice and the fight against police brutality. I just beg that it can be done with consideration for those who are traumatized and triggered by explicit and horrific images.
I love you all and I pray for the healing of the Black community. I pray that a change is going to come. This is not freedom. This is the fight of our lives. #BlackLivesMatter
