I don’t live in America either. But I can see that George Floyd, a black American man, was murdered by a white supremacist cop named Derek Chauvin, who was acting with impunity on behalf of an institutionally racist police force. In broad daylight. Knowingly being filmed. (1/) https://twitter.com/mumzel99/status/1265649623374483457
Assisted by two white colleagues, Chauvin held his knee on George Floyd’s neck for between 7 and 9 minutes, while mocking him, as George, running out of oxygen, begged for his life. Bystanders filmed and pleaded with Chauvin to get off Floyd’s neck. (2/)
I did not want to cry yesterday. I watched the video of this man, suspected by a cashier of writing a bad cheque, ask for mercy as he felt himself being killed. He called the cop “sir.” He said “please,” repeatedly. He groaned and grunted. He said “they’re killing me.” (3/)
And finally, he begged for his mama. “Mama. Mama. They’re killing me.” You can believe I fucking cried. And what was another thing he said, through his crushed trachea, as he was being murdered by people who are supposed to protect him? “I can’t breathe. I can’t breathe.” (4/)
Do you recognise this phrase, in the exact same context? If not, you need to look it up. You need to educate yourself. Start by watching the video of George Floyd’s murder and work backwards from there. This happened this week. THIS WEEK. (5/)
And what you need to do — always, but especially right now — is properly shut the fuck up about “white racial problems.” I notice that you are vegan. I implore you to examine your grasp of systemic oppression, and work from there. Happy to share educational links with you. (/end)
