the american police are participating in systemic racism. prisons are cement buildings holding people enslaved by the system. black people in america are not protected by their rights, and those of us with privilege have opportunities EVERY DAY to use that privilege.
obviously i'm only 21, i've grown up using the internet, literally since middle school. the way i have watched our capacity for empathy shift has been gross. we are so disconnected from bigoted issues because they are presented to us so often and with nonchalence.
this is the age of community values. the way we respond is more important than anything. it's not responsible for us to say that all lives matter when we have watched the value of black lives decrease in the eyes of the powerful for hundreds of years.
the internet has made this especially bad. its too easy to open up social media and be immediately subject to violence.
racism is taught. you are NOT born into this world with an inherent idea of who you think others are. you don't even know yourself enough.

white people, speak the fuck up. act. your life is not in danger.
