There is a culture of assuming that people don't have thoughts outside of what they tweet so I understand the pressure to publicly announce where you stand for fear of being assumed Not An Ally but please refrain from sharing media depicting violence against POC for shock value.
With folks social distancing and spending more time online, now more than ever I wish ppl would be more considerate about the imagery they post on here—tons of black people have stated many times now that being bombarded with this kind of media is traumatizing in its own right
Discussion, and more importantly, taking action, does not require spreading images and video that have the potential to traumatize the very people you are publicly claiming to be upset on behalf of. So please, just, think before posting or RTing this kind of stuff.
To be clear: I’m NOT talking about activists using social media to document proof when injustices occur—this is a proven and valuable method of applying pressure and should continue to be utilized. What I wish ppl would be sensitive about is AFTER it’s entered mainstream media.
