When my wife was pregnant with Lady, before we knew the sex, I was sure we were having a boy. I’m the middle of three boys, my older brother had a son already. I was sure! I know thats not how it works, but I still had a some hope on round 2. After Cali was born,I knew that was it
I never really cared that much to begin with and never gave it much thought after. Since Lady and Cali’s birth, the number of unarmed black men that have been brutalized or murdered unjustly is heartbreaking.
I seriously fear for the lives of not only black men I do not know, but more especially for those of the young men that are sons of my friends. I sometimes feel guilty for being a little relieved that we don’t have boys.
I’m equally angered and heartbroken over again, more unarmed black men being killed for being black and breathing.
We know none of this is new. Yet, during this pandemic we’ve been overwhelmingly supplied with video evidence of black and brown Americans being terrorized in their own country.
So I ask this. Where are all of you folks that recently stormed state capitals for “freedom” and “oppression” at now? Or do y’all only protest the right for hair cuts and pool parties?
