I woke up today more hurt and angrier than I went to bed last night. I have heard and seen so much silence on my timeline, read too much justification and feel too much hopelessness. Enough was enough so long ago. When does this country change the way it treats black people?
When do the people who call themselves allies, who worked and voted for Obama and other candidates of color, say something? Look inside themselves and decide to speak out? When does the system change? When do I feel less hopeless?
Being black in America: ancestors robbed of their freedom, enslaved, then once "free," fighting to survive in a system and for a dream that wasnt meant for them. And then once they find their way, and try to achieve their dream, every part of it is questioned.
A black man can't go running in a park, a black man can't drive his family home, a black child can't play in a playground, a black woman can't change lanes in a car, a black kid can't get skittles from a store, a black woman can't sleep in her own home, he said he can't breathe.
Amy Cooper knew what she was doing. She knew she was threatening his life. She knew of her privilege, and she used her best "self defense" in a situation where she unjustifiably felt threatened. She was in the wrong and didnt want a black man to tell her so.
So if you are wondering why we are angry, this is why. This man could have been dead for bird watching in a park and asking her to follow the rules. Another black man died in MN and when black people question why, the police use tear gas. We just want to know when this will end.
It has always been too much to ask.
