Usually I think The Daily does an OK job on the topics it covers but today's ep on the USPS fell short. Just off the top of my head — quickly describing the pension pre-funding obligation as a prudent fiscal move, without context (no other federal agency has this requirement).
It's also pretty clear that much of this government's agenda has been towards privatization, and one can't really discuss the fight over funding the USPS without some analysis of this longstanding GOP goal (the episode kind of gestures at it, but not in depth).
Finally, rather than focus on the terms of the Amazon contract (which, the episode notes, isn't losing $ — by law it can't) why not discuss some of the many proposals for the USPS to generate revenue? The obvious one is postal banking (as @MehrsaBaradaran & others have analyzed).
But instead, the juxtaposition of the GOP perspective is an interview with a postal carrier — which, while interesting, is not a policy proposal. We hear lots of what Trump, Mnuchin, and the Republicans propose — and nothing about what Democrats envision. A poor showing.
