Toni Morrison famously said that racism "keeps [us] explaining, over and over again, [our] reason for being." I'm thinking a lot about this antagonism: the madness of whiteness; the gluttonous, callous desire for "evidence of harms" done; the lack of accountability...
As a grad student, I constantly observe how whiteness deludes the masses of answerability for its crimes. Taskforces, working groups, committees...organized spaces that suffice an illusion of "progress," while brazenly rejecting, minimizing, and condemning pro-Black perspectives
Morrison constantly compels me to situate these harmful redundancies and inspires me to ask different questions, seek different solutions, place myself in different spaces...
There are many conversations that we have graduated from in this moment. I'm not interested in stale discourse that sanitizes misogynoir, anti-Black hypersurveillance, etc to a personal failure of individuals in lieu of a reckoning of anti-Blackness as the lifeblood of humanity.
