Thinking about the parallels Cloti share with Simba and Nala from the Lion King (Thanks to the peeps at FinalHeaven Discord server for putting all this together): a thread
Both Simba and Nala are childhood friends who got separated. While Cloud and Tifa aren't that close as children, they were still childhood friends (childhood friends don't always mean close). Simba and Nala got separated due to tragedy, and so are Cloud and Tifa.
Simba lost his way and abandoned his rights to be King, just like Cloud lost his identity and forgot who he actually was. Nala helped Simba realise his role so he can fight Scar, just like Tifa helped piece Cloud's mind and identity back together so he can fight Sephiroth.
Everybody thought Simba was dead. Cloud went missing for 5 years.
Simba and Nala realised their love for each other accompanied with the song "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" written by Elton John. The first thing to note is "night" as Cloud and Tifa's moments as a couple are defined with the night sky. Night is their theme.
Now time to dissect the lyrics! There are two versions to this lyrics. The one in the movie and the one sung by Elton John, I'm gonna discuss both as both are very fitting to describe Cloud and Tifa.
The song is first opened by Timon and Pumba who are commenting on how the lovers "don't have a clue". Like us Cloti shippers who can see something between them, Cloti themselves haven't realise it yet until the night under the Highwind. Which brings me to the next part.
Remember how I mentioned this song was used when Simba and Nala realised their love? The lyrics also apply for the night under the Highwind, where Cloud and Tifa realise their feelings for each other.
And while Timon and Pumba meant it as a joke when they say "Disaster's in the air", in Cloti's case it is literally because the meteor was upon them. Nevertheless it was "the sweet caress of twilight" for the two of them who had nowhere to go home to and only had each other.
Cloud is a man of few words who keeps a lot of things to himself, esp. his feelings.
"The truth about my past? Impossible! She'd turn away from me."
The truth is that he was just a Shinra grunt, and he's afraid it'd disappoint Tifa and make her turn away from him.
The next one is Tifa's POV. "He's holding back, he's hiding. But what, I can't decide."
This showcases her uncertainty when she first encountered Cloud. She knew something was wrong about Cloud, something he was hiding from her. But she couldn't decide what to do about it.
The next line" "Why won't he be the King I know he is, the King I see inside?" is paralleled not because Tifa expects him to be sth grandeur like a SOLDIER. Just like Nala meaning it to be Simba's true self, Tifa also wishes to see the real Cloud that she knew.
This is why she said "Your eyes... They used to be less..." referring to how she remembers Cloud's true self, which is not the hardened SOLDIER he has become.
Can you feel the love tonight? It speaks for itself since it's the night Cloud and Tifa realise their feelings for each other.
"You needn't look too far" because Cloud and Tifa realise their love was right in front of them all along.
"Stealing through the night's uncertainties" because that night is before the final fight with Sephiroth, and it was uncertain whether they'd make it out alive or not.
"Wanderer" fits Cloud who had wandered from Nibelheim to Midgar, and also after he escaped Hojo's lab.
It can also mean mentally as his mind wandered aimlessly until he found Tifa and ultimately received her help to piece it back together. So he needed not wander aimlessly any more.
I also mentioned Elton John's version but what I really want to focus on are these words: Restless warrior, wide-eyed wanderer, star-crossed voyager. All these can be used to describe Cloud. He's a warrior, and as explained before, a wanderer as well.
