In a particularly ugly moment for @APTAtweets, a significant number of fellowships, including ALL hand fellowships, voluntarily withdraw their accreditation from ABPTRFE, and the response is: “You can’t quit because we fired you.” This needs attention, @DunnSdunn2
And I’m tweeting this publicly because I did not receive a reply to the very lengthy letter I sent to @APTAtweets leadership and ABPTRFE in January. A letter 13 fellowship programs sent a year prior also was not replied to.
This situation has caused enormous pain and needless energy spent on a self-inflicted wound for @APTAtweets. The problem is outlined thoroughly in a lengthy letter from the Academy of Orthopaedic PT to ABPTRFE in 2019 http://communities.apta.org/p/fo/do/download=1&fid=11389">https://communities.apta.org/p/fo/do/d...
As I& #39;m no longer a fellowship program director, I don& #39;t have a dog in this fight. I& #39;m not the only leader to have left this space due in part to long standing frustrations with ABPTRFE. It& #39;s been very sad to see. And it was unnecessary. And it has been happening under the radar
As @APTAtweets has been creating a difficult business environment for fellowship programs, demand in ortho residency and fellowship training has been declining for years. With added COVID-19 closures, the post-grad training space is stressed to a breaking point.
And to be very clear, I’m in support of @APTAtweets and have admired the leadership of @DunnSdunn2. This thread is to highlight the problem and shine a light, not to impune. But surely, attention is needed.
