#WritingCommunity & #readingcommunity, THIS IS NOT A SAD STORY, Episode Two comes out today and it's about my #heritage. So, in that vein, here's a little #honest talk about my heritage!

I am half-Asian / #Hapa, to borrow the Hawaiian term. (1/7)
My mother is Korean, and my father is German /Hungarian/ English/Irish & the list goes on. When people meet me, some think I'm white, some think I'm Asian, some think I'm Latina, and a few realize I'm half-Asian. (2/7)
Of course, it's not like I walk around advertising myself, so they usually find out from seeing my parents. When I was younger, there weren't a lot of other half-Asians, but now they're all over the place! (3/7)
Here are some things I've heard about my identity that I wish people wouldn't say about half-Asians:

1. That we look #pretty & #exotic b/c we're "the best of both worlds."
2. That we're not Asian enough or white enough.
3. That we should choose to be either white or Asian. (4/7)
4. (specifically for me) That my father must've married my mom because he suffered from "yellow fever."
5. That interracial relationships don't work out long-term.
6. That half-Asians have both #whiteprivilege and "Asian advantage." (5/7)
I love my #identity. It definitely influences my perception of the world! I'm glad that there are more half-Asian, #biracial & #multiracial individuals out there nowadays, since it means that I'm not an object of interest anymore. #heritage #AsianHeritageMonth (6/7)
