CSS Thread:

Since i've been getting a lot of DMs from aspirants regarding guidance on CSS exams, i'd like to share a few points based on my experience if it can be of any help. Though i'm not an expert in this tutoring or mentoring thing but still lets give it a try :)

CSS is a game of nerves. It tests your knowledge, intellect, stamina and most importantly luck.If one is determined to do it; he can do it.A confused person won't end up anywhere.Just make up your mind and go for it.But i'd advise everyone to get a professional degree 1st.

Time for preparation varies from person to person depending upon his background knowledge, aptitude, consistency and studying habits. There is no single formula. One can do it in 3 months; others cant do so in 3 years. I took about 9 months to prepare for written part.

Joining an academy can help you if you have no idea about CSS. It can help in subject selection, book recommendation, mock tests and provision of notes. However, having someone from service in family or friends to guide is a better option. Self-study is always recommended.

Subject selection is again a personal thing.Choose your subjects based on your educational background and aptitude.Never go for much touted scoring options if you have no interest in them. It can backfire massively.Just choose a subject of your liking and give it your best

Always keep one major reference book for each subject and use it as a primary source. Add points to it from other secondary sources. Make short notes of each topic (bullet points) if you can. They can be very handy during revision. Try to practice oft repeated questions.

Going through Past papers is very important. It gives you an idea about the most important topics that are repeated over the years in exams and need special focus.Solve MCQs from past papers.Go through the Syllabus outline of each subject too. It helps in book selection.

For English and GK;read as much as you can and then write as much as you can.Get your written work checked by some professional English teacher.Your expression will improve with practice and your reading habits.Try reading DAWN on daily basis esp its editorials and columns

Set a timeline, make a time table and try to follow it. Don't exhaust yourself, take adequate breaks, give time to family and friends, eat and sleep well and try to take some time out for some physical activity on daily basis. Just take it as an exam. Its very important.

Always keep a plan B. CSS is very unpredictable. If things go wrong (God forbid), you must have some professional degree to switch to.During its preparation phase, feelings of anxiety, depression and worthlessness are common; be strong and keep faith in Allah and yourself

It was a random thread. Sorry for lack of coherence. I just jotted down whatever came to my mind. I might have missed alot of things.I'd be happy to answer any further queries in this thread :)
P.S: I took CSS in 2015 and was 4th in Pakistan. It was my 1st attempt.
