The concentric circle of people that drive their cars into my local park, leave swisher sweet wrappers wherever, and trash the park is just a circle.
Also, they're almost exclusively black people. Breaks my heart and infuriates the hell out of me. There's no excuse for trashing a park. At all.
This is the flip side of our racial issues. People also have to act right and we need to be courageous enough to call it out.
I can get the idea of years of racism resulting in segregation and disinvestment, which results in trashy environments, which results in thinking it's OK to leave trash everywhere. But I don't know an actual solution to it other than call it out.
It's a reinforcing piece of segregation. Who would want to live in a literally trashy environment when they have the option to not? I had two plastic bags with me and filled them both up while walking through the park. I'm not having that where I live.
I mean, someone left a used diaper on a f**king picnic table. GTFOH. Until we all feel comfortable just being frank and honest about egregious stuff like this that, tragically, cuts pretty clearly along racial lines, I don't see much overall progress happening.
Being honest about this side of things is an important part of the overall solution, and the "woke" white liberals ain't touching this. It's just "Sorry, I see now via shared cell phone videos that we're racist. I'll tweet about it, and feel guilty!" Thanks.
One of the things I love most about my park is that it's the rare place in Milwaukee where you see multiple races in one place. It also has all the amenities you'd want, including quick access to a beautiful trail along the Milwaukee River. It's an absolute gem.
I pick trash up when I see it, which isn't that often. I know others do too. A few pieces of stray garbage are inevitable. A whole area full of trash - all near actual trash cans mind you - no I'm not going to excuse that.
