I've been very busy the last few days. Ive spent a lot of time making compost and moving organic materials. This is one of my compost operations. This is the key to organic gardening. Healthy dark nutrient rich compost.
This compost is the first layer I put down in my garden beds. Notice how dark and rich it looks compared to the Earth I am putting it in.
I also brought in a huge pile of manure from the from the farm next door. The plants absolutely love this. It is a mix of aged sheep, horse and cow manure.
The combination of compost, wood mulch and manure is the main food source for my garden. Here you can see the beds with a fresh layer of manure.
Here you can see my onions are doing well and the potatoes I planted are already sprouting roots after 3 days.
I also got a very large area rototilled and this is where the rest of my garden will be put in. This area is about 40x80 feet. Today I will plant my 3 sisters, corn, beans and 5 types of squash, acorn, butternut, spaghetti, zucchini and pumpkins.
You can also see I am beginning to line the beds with cardboard which will be covered in mulch. So far I have planted onions, potatoes, garlic, beets, radishes, and kale and this week is when all the rest of the seeds will be planted.
