It is actually outrageous that @DalhousieU is proceeding with their annual tuition raise during a global crisis
This tuition raise is a completely unreasonable burden to place on their students when everyone is struggling financially
ESPECIALLY students most of whom have lost their anticipated summer income, and can barely get by with government funded CESB
Yes, Dalhousie has to innovate during this time which has added expenditures for the university. *But they are also saving money*
Without students on their physical campuses there is a decrease in hydro and electric costs, lab costs, in person student supports, and overall facilities maintenance and upkeep
Not to mention the increased costs to students in setting up their own home offices. As a person who has always used the @SchulichLaw library, I have to purchase my own additional costs in getting a desk, seating, and decent internet for the school year. This adds up!
A tuition raise is really the last thing students needed financially and mentally. This is not how you serve your students or make good connections for future alumni.
I’m honestly ashamed to attend @DalhousieU right now. This ‘business as usual’ with tuition fee raises is deplorable.
I would encourage @DalhousieU not only to innovate in how they deliver their programs, but how they can innovate their budget to best serve students in a time when everyone is coming together to help one another.
And don’t tell me you are increasing student financial support. Just charge me less so I can plan my own budget accordingly, and not make me have to go through the hoops of applying for some grant or bursary.
