These words are from 2 years ago. Crazy how they remain relevant. https://www.instagram.com/p/CAqpQ0-nq8J/?igshid=19tnx4otmofg6
If you’re white and an “ally” but not talking to the karens and all lives matter folks in your life about the systematic racism and murder of black people at the hands of the police then please keep your RTs and reposts because I’m tired of the performative bullshit.
Genuinely curious how many black folks saw their white (and non-black POC tbqh) friends post about George Floyd or Breonna Taylor or Ahmaud Arbery before they saw us post about it first. I wonder how many of us had their friends send love instead of perform meaningful action.
I wonder how many of us will see these same friends RT and repost and tweet hashtags but when we can go to brunch again, they’ll be having mimosas with their Karen and all lives matter friends/family bc “my friends would never...” “my family isn’t racist they just won’t listen”
or “what am I supposed to do, just not see my friends? Talk to my family???” Well! I guess it’s time you ask yourself what your values really are then. And what kind of people you want to keep in your life and if they support those values.
You know who doesn’t get to see their friends again or talk to their families? All the black folks dead at the hands of police and racist. And if this thread has you shifting in your seat and uncomfortable then you need to do some deep evaluating.
You know how many group chats I’m in where any of this has come up? One. And it’s bc it’s just black women. You know how many folks I follow on social media that have nothing to say? MANY (unfortunately). “It doesn’t fit my vibe/happy place/aesthetic” fuck your happy place tbqh
