The future of travel industry predictions are mostly premature, are they not? We’ve got a long way to go.
This one idea keep materialising, that things will be different *because* mass tourism was not working for many locales, thereby ruining them.
I mean, maybe? Maybe this pause in tourist revenue will inspire particular destinations to regulate incoming travel differently.
Maybe, once borders are open & the fear of travel has subsided tourist behaviour will change in a more permanent way.
But also maybe not. Many economies are completely reliant on tourism. In most places the priority is short-term capital flow. The number one objective is going to be to fill hotel rooms.
What will change things short-term is people not being able to afford to travel. But once we see a recovery, what will the incentives be at the level of industry to do things differently?
Assuming no massive consumer shift towards other types of travel?
