I’ve done a moderate amount of travelling in eastern Canada and I can honestly say that St. John’s is the dirtiest, trashiest, most run-down, unkempt towns or cities I’ve visited. The amount of trash and dilapidated properties here is horrible.

Newfoundlanders litter like no others. Every little corner, alley and park is full of garbage. People literally throw their garbage out car windows everywhere - I’ve witnessed it. It’s heartbreaking when I go through the trouble of taking my own garbage home.

Streets are awful, even the patched ones suck. The scratch and patch repairs leave streets a roller-coaster of uneven bumps. Cheap repairs do not equal good roads.

Also, I love heritage properties but there comes a time when you should just cut your losses and remove the horrible eyesores that grace some of the older parts of St.John’s.
