Period poverty is not just about affordability issues, it has a lot to do with social stigmas that come with periods and period products generally- this gives good insight into how these translate in Irish society from a 10 minute comment scroll on an rte poll about a tampax ad.
Some more for the road
Menstrual hygiene day is a great way to challenge these attitudes through promoting period positivity, encouraging donations of products and showing the wide range of products available to those who menstruate- @kittymaguire is doing yoga on thursday that ticks all these boxes!
It's disheartening seeing comments about the resistance to openly discuss periods as very normal and frequent things - Homeless Period Ireland, @NWCI, @RedBoxProject amongst many many others work so tirelessly to address some of the things mentioned above, deff worth a follow!🤓
I'm doing my thesis on this topic I just feel so strongly about this!!
