Comparing the Netanyahu/Trump annexation plan with the Nazis' Final Solution is pretty unhinged even for Israel's Kanahists, but it highlights an important dynamic in Israeli politics and the role the far-right fringe plays: https://twitter.com/nofilter_Il/status/1265564759501541381
Netanyahu was always pretty far right, and only went farther right. Part of the problem is that his rhetoric is always based on stoking fear and hate and claiming Israel is in imminent danger at the scale of the Holocaust - whether because of Iran, Hamas, or kids with scissors.
He also prides himself on being a wise and prudent leader, using violence liberally but always in a controlled, intentional way. But his rhetoric creates the expectation of far greater, far less limited violence.
Netanyahu's partners farther right, like Bennett, King, or in the past Liberman, voice that expectation, always demanding more blood and more land than Netanyahu is already spilling or taking, no matter how much that is.
And so as not to lose ground politically, he has to comply.
The far right in Israel (and elsewhere) is adept at constantly dragging the Overton window farther right, making far-right politics appear almost centrist because there's always the rabid genocidist calling it out in the most unhinged terms.
The Trump/Netanyahu annexation plan is already way to the right of anything previously under serious discussion. It is a massive land-grab against Palestinians. But it is already being decried by the genocidists as no less than genocide *against Jews.* https://twitter.com/nofilter_Il/status/1265564759501541381
In this way, the far-right fringe helps Netanyahu continuously go father and farther *while appearing moderate and prudent.* And it means every step Israel takes is in immediate danger of being escalated, if other considerations don't trump intra-Right politics.
