I have so many stories bout racism... I couldn't tell them all. As a young man, I try to enjoy life and from time to time, I have encountered some very weird racists or been in situations that make me wish I could punch people. Here are some of the stories #MeetingRacists

Chelsea, London 2019

Was in London for work and stayed in an apartment in Chelsea for about 2 weeks. One day, I was waiting in thebreception for my Uber to go a meeting and a white male sitting on the other side with his wife and 2 daughters approached me. #MeetingRacists

Unprovoked... He told me to go mad wait outside. I asked him why he was talking to me. He said he think people should wait outside for their guests to come and meet them. O asked him if he worked there and he said no. #MeetingRacists

I asked him if I did anything to warrant this conversation and why he thought I couldn't also be staying in the building... He jokingly responded "You can afford this place? What do you do?" #MeetingRacists

I stood up and walked into the build office and raised hell there. My Uber came... I showed the lady from the office the racist and I left for my meeting. Please note that this man was waiting to check in that day. #MeetingRacists

Ukraine, 2018

@crazeclown invited me and one of my former clients to a show in Ukraine. We sat in business abi premium class and were the black people on the plane and only people in that class on the plane so we were the first to get off the plane #MeetingRacists

We get to immigrations and polite greet them and dropped our passport. They grabbed it and then asked plus to go sit in a corner. I asked if there was a problem and they said they needed to ask us some questions and I asked why can't you ask us here now? #MeetingRacists

The guy looked at me as if he knew me from somewhere and with a look of aggression said to me "Sit down and wait or we will have a problem" seeing as I was in another man's country we e respected ourselves. #MeetingRacists

They left us there. No one talked to us. They were not overwhelmed. That was the only plane that landed. They passed EVERYONE and then came to us. Why are you here? Where are you coming from? Etc I don't even know what they were trying to achieve. #MeetingRacists

After all the useless questioning, we found out that the lady had the artwork for the event poster for the show ON HER PHONE. the entire thing was uncalled for and unnecessary but ey... They couldn't pass on the opportunity to be racist #MeetingRacists

Joburg, South Africa 2016

I was in SA for work and my girlfriend at the time travelled to meet me in SA for my birthday. We checked into a hotel called The Saxon Hotel. First at the gate, the guy had a hard time connecting my name to my face. I let that slide #MeetingRacists

Our Uber pulled up at the front of the hotel and the potter who were running to open the doors stood still when they saw a young black couple come out of the car. Like the actually stopped and stared as if we lost our way. #MeetingRacists

I don't think they saw a lot of black people come there. Talk less about young black people. Anyway I asked if they were not going to get our bags and we both walked into the reception #MeetingRacists

Now, I give props to the guy at the reception. He did his best to hide his shock that Godwin Tom wasn't a middle aged white male

After the initial awkwardness, we told him we were going to a spa down town so they can check us in and we would leave #MeetingRacists

We returned a few hours later and met a different guy. A white guy who wasn't sure if we were the ones he was checking into the Presidential suite. He gave us our key and said our butler would meet us on our way to the section of the compound where the suite was #MeetingRacists

So here we are walking through a long path leading to this section and looking out for our so called Butler. There was a black guy that was walking towards us. We assumed it was him but he slowed down and looked at us as if to say to himself that's not them and walked past us

So we also thought... Nah that's not him. It was. Dude thought, there is no way these are the guests I'm taking care of... We got to a section with 3 exits nd got confused so we took the first one and it led to a spa... That's how we found out he was our butler #MeetingRacists

Now to the racist part of this story cos that was just a case of black people dealing with the aftermath of oppression... The next morning we went down for breakfast and quickly realised we were the only black people there. #MeetingRacists

Told me ex that we should get our food and eat outside. As I was getting food a white man walked up to me and said and I quote "You must be making a lot of money to be able to stay here. Are you visiting South Africa?" I calmly replied, "Yes I am visiting" #MeetingRacists

"Where are you visiting from" I told him Nigeria. He said "I see... So what do you do?" I said I work in entertainment and he said "Must be lucrative" and I said "Yes it pays our bills". Now I'm getting irritated. #MeetingRacists

Then he said "For a young man like you, I'm sure your job alone couldn't help you afford this. I work my ass off to make money to afford this type of luxury" I was speechless. I just told him we all work hard to enjoy this luxury and left #MeetingRacists

I didn't even get all my food. I just needed to leave that place. I couldn't even tell my ex what he said I just told her that place seemed uncomfortable and for everything else I needed I used the staff serving. @mystroofficial ate with us that morning #MeetingRacists

Apart from that incident which was out of the hotels control, The Saxon was an amazing experience. You should go there, if you can afford it

Cannes, France 2017

Travelled to Cannes to speak on a panel on Afrobeats music at the MIDEM conference. Shout out to @stevespotlight Nosa and the team.

The conference went great. I decided to stay a few extra days to explore the city #MeetingRacists

Went to a nice restaurant on the boukevard to get food and sat and watched waiters ignore me for 15 minutes. I tried to get people's attention and then finally one came to me and said "Sorry about my colleagues" #MeetingRacists

I was too upset and I asked him what the issue was and he looked at me and said "don't be rude. I'm trying to be nice to serve you because none of my colleagues want to serve you" I was livid. Did I beg for food? Am I smelling? #MeetingRacists

This entire time I'm sitting down. Then One of the other waiters walked up to him speaking French (well I guess it was french) and the guy turned to me and said "Why are you being aggressive?" that statement was my sign to leave. Smelt like problem #MeetingRacists

Took my 200 euros to eat somewhere else. #MeetingRacists

I have stories for days.

London, UK, 2018

Was having a drink at a bar near my apartment when a guy from a table with his friends asked me where I was from... I said Nigeria. He laughed and said do you have an inheritance for me? #MeetingRacists i

I won't even lie, that made me laugh but I think it made him confident that he would try more jokes. He then said "why do you people steal so much and lie so much?" In a seemingly sudden wave of stupidity, I asked if I could join them. They said yes #MeetingRacists

I asked why he thought we were thieves and he said "Well for one mate, you guys are top of the list in internet fraud". My eyes lit up... I asked him are you sure. He said yup. My mates get ya emails bruv" #MeetingRacists

I told him let's check Google so we searched this "Countries with the highest rate of Cybercrime" Britain was number 4 and Nigeria was not on that list. Finished my beer and left before they started a new argument #MeetingRacists

Jamaica Queens, NY, USA 2009

After all my money finished in Manhattan I went to Jamaica Queens to stay in a hotel called Clarion's and then another one called BlackBall or something. Shout out @AyoShonaiya and @tonynwakalor for saving me from embassrassment that year lol

Anyway, one night I decided to go hang out cos I was bored. Stepped out and saw a bar with 2 black guys standing outside so I thought it must be safe. These stupid guys didn't tell me it was a Mexican or columbian bar. #MeetingRacists

I walked and and boom... They all looked at me as if I was lost... so now I'm here ... I can't just turn and leave. They are all looking at me. So I slowly walked in and found a seat. The waitress walked up to me and asked what I wanted I said 1 Corona beer #MeetingRacists

She brought my beer, opened it and said "it's 20 dollars". I said for a bottle of Corona? The guys around turned and looked at me as if to say "let us hear you argue" one man said said "Make sure that piece of shit pay now" I respected myself and paid. #MeetingRacists

That night I had one goal... Get out of here alive and go lay on your hotel bed Godwin!!!

Finished my 20 dollar Corona beer and left... I could feel their eyes look at me as I left. When I got out I looked at the bouncers and wished I could slap them #MeetingRacists

Went back to my hotel and didn't go anywhere again after that. Just wanted to go home. Sigh.
