The police are an extension of the military, a force employed by the white supremacist capitalist state to & #39;handle& #39; the enemy of white supremacist capitalism; black people, people of colour, the poor & working classes. (Or at least police forces globally bloody act like it!)
I used to think cases like George Floyd were examples of racist police officers abusing their power, until @divanificent pointed out (again) that it is in their power, their very mandate, to abuse. (My initial tweet is just repackaged, repurposed for Twitter, Angela Y Davis btw.)
It& #39;s important to stress now that, I& #39;m not talking about (neither do I care about) the & #39;individuals& #39; in this idea, as *the rule* is that police power is to abuse, to terrorise, etc, communities which the state wants & #39;handled& #39;.
Like, yes, your dad& #39;s mate could be a "good" police officer, but what does "good" mean here? I guess it means; they& #39;re not fulfilling the state& #39;s wishes (completely) pertaining to the state& #39;s & #39;enemies& #39;.
