The police are an extension of the military, a force employed by the white supremacist capitalist state to 'handle' the enemy of white supremacist capitalism; black people, people of colour, the poor & working classes. (Or at least police forces globally bloody act like it!)
I used to think cases like George Floyd were examples of racist police officers abusing their power, until @divanificent pointed out (again) that it is in their power, their very mandate, to abuse. (My initial tweet is just repackaged, repurposed for Twitter, Angela Y Davis btw.)
It's important to stress now that, I'm not talking about (neither do I care about) the 'individuals' in this idea, as *the rule* is that police power is to abuse, to terrorise, etc, communities which the state wants 'handled'.
Like, yes, your dad's mate could be a "good" police officer, but what does "good" mean here? I guess it means; they're not fulfilling the state's wishes (completely) pertaining to the state's 'enemies'.
Now, let's talk about what 'handling' looks like (word to Miss Pope). Aside from the direct killing of people at the hands of the police, handling looks like; incarceration, fabrication/destruction of evidence, harassment, and more!
It's.. a lot. I don't think I have much more to say in this thread, aside from RIP George Floyd, and stop sharing the video.
