Worrying findings from a survey of 17,000 children (8-11) and 27,000 adolescents (12-17).
- Almost half find home learning more stressful than going to school, more so as they get older
- A quarter say home is too busy to be able to work properly
- 70% of children and 45% of adolescents miss school
- 1 in 5 has had little or no contact with peers
- Half feel lonelier
- 31% of children and 42% of adolescents feel more stressed
- Significant groups (up to a third) feel angrier and scared
- and over two thirds feel bored
However
- 12% feel happier
- A quarter feel calmer
Overall though the negative impact of lockdown on children and young people is clearly not to be underestimated.
Surveys conducted in Flanders by a group of children's rights organisations as a caveat.
