This guy Zhang Zishi who spoke against the Warwick motion and recently tweeted about Bethany's Axios article is an interesting individual (fascinatingly he preemptively blocked me). https://twitter.com/BethanyAllenEbr/status/1265323895520968706
I’m sure Vietnamese-Americans were greatly comforted by Zhang’s #chineselivesmatter activism.
At the time, Zhang did an interview with the Global Times in which he called for Chinese people to have racial pride.

“如果一个人为他的民族感到骄傲,这是一件好事”。
Zhang also had an episode of Chinese Central Television’s Chinese World dedicated to him the following month.

Around the same time, Zhang was given a column at http://Guancha.cn , state controlled media linked to Eric X Li, a believer in the so-called China model who claims that “democracy is failing.”

That's a lot of state media attention for a 17 year old....
How do I know about http://Guancha.cn ? Well, in October of last year, they were initiators of a state media pressure campaign against me that COMPLETELY FAILED LOL

So, I know about Guancha. Not nice people. In addition to being a columnist at this state media site, Zhang was also interviewed for a Guancha story in December 2019 about the Sheffield Student Union motion to support Hong Kong students.
https://www.guancha.cn/internation/2019_12_07_527669.shtml
In the interview, Zhang declared that it was a disgrace that the motion in support of HK students was even being discussed: “这个提案被推到了大会阶段是我们学生会的耻辱!”
Shows a lot of respect for the democratic process, I gotta say.
Zhang was disappointed that the motion did not mention the “hoodlums” and their “violent acts”- basically, he was angry that the motion did not use the language that CCTV and guancha use to discuss events in Hong Kong.
只字不提暴徒暴行,单方面指责香港警察的要求也是片面、不恰当的
Zhang however had no hesitation about using state sponsored language to discuss motions in support of Hong Kong at various UK universities, claiming that the motions seemed to suggest behind the scenes organization and planning.
他怀疑这是有组织有预谋的行动。
Projecting much?
Eric X Li loves to say that democracy is failing.
It clearly failed in this Warwick case as a result of the manipulation of people like Zhang.
