Good morning Twitter ☀️ Yesterday I noticed I read 21 books during the quarantine (it's quite a lot, even for me) and I thought it would be nice to do a quick thread of recs about some of them, as they really helped me to cope
First I reread one of my all-time favourite: The Bedlam Stack by Natasha Pulley. It's magical realism in Peru in 1859 with slow-pacing, a lot of coffee & sass, discussions about languages and Merrick is the best narrator you could ask for & I live for his relationship w Raphael.
Next, the most comforting book: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Honestly, this story has the same effect than a warm, weighted blanket, I can't explain it otherwise. It's a sweet fantasy with found family at its core & a slow-burn MLM love story.
I decided to read smth outside my comfort zone with Weather by Jenny Offill and it was a really good choice. Hard to describe, it's contemporary North American lit that reads more like a personal blog than fiction. A bit depressing but the writing style is kind of my thing.
Then I read the 3 books in the Dominion of the Fallon series by Aliette de Bodard in 3 days. Urban fantasy based in a historical Paris ruined by a magic war. Fallen angels, Vietnamese dragons, important discussions about colonialism&power&kindness & a queer cast.
(If you subscribe to the author's newsletter you can receive a free novella based in this universe. Perfect to see if this may be your thing or not ✨ https://mailchi.mp/4dd06c85f70b/aliette-de-bodard-newsletter-signup

Also, starting in book 2 you'll meet one of the best couples for the arranged marriage trope.)
I'll end this thread with Beach Read by Emily Henry. Rivals-to-friends-to-lovers romance btw a romance writer and a literary writer. They decide to compete to see if they can write a book in the other's genre. It's funny and healing and you'll Feel so many things reading this 💖
