There is a compulsiveness about the ongoing Cummings media event: it drags us in even if we have no strong opinion about what he did or didn't do. It's basically a war, partly a proxy for various other conflicts, especially Brexit. And so far he and the PM are standing firm.

The intensity of this event is largely down to Remain campaigners achieving what they've been attempting for four years: of mobilising large portions of Leave voters & public figures to attack the government, to split their opponents & use their media clout to reassert dominance.

And I don't think much of it is really about trying to stop Brexit, that's largely gone now. It's more about revenge, hatred and simple opposition.
