Those who have platforms to reach masses - it is your moral/civic duty to (at the very least) speak out on injustices in this country. (1/8)
I’m talking specifically about those in the entertainment industry, politics, media, etc. - anyone with the ability to cut thru the all the noise, and *be heard*. Not just individuals; corporations too. Your megaphones are needed now more than ever. (2/8)
And if you don’t feel informed enough to have an opinion, get a publicist who is (...or something). Ignorance can no longer be an excuse... (3/8)
... Nor can financial consequences (*cough* Michael Jordan *cough*). Those unwilling to stand for a cause, in favor of fiscal conservatism, should no longer be given passes. (4/8)
“Republicans buy sneakers, too.” To me that said: “I only care about social justice to the extent that it doesn’t negatively affect my bottom line.” (5/8)
MJ is an easy target here and to be fair, he has since (maybe) changed his views. I.E. He voiced support for #BLM back in 2016. But I guess I’m more so talking about big corps., and their shareholders and execs... Or politicians who don’t want to lose donors. (6/8)
...Why do we allow them to hide behind capitalism, and remain silent on issues that really matter because they don’t wanna alienate certain customer segments or political constituencies? (7/8)
Anyways, to the aforementioned in this thread: if you are not using your platform to call attention to the continued killing of unarmed black men in this country and the deep rooted systemic racism that enables it... *you* are part of the problem. (8/8)
