it’s not normal to watch a man groaning for his life. it ain’t normal to watch a man die, even if it’s on a small screen. it’s not normal y’all.

and i don’t think gawking a human’s death every now and then is gonna increase our empathy, if that’s what we’re going for. if empathy hasn’t come by now, maybe it ain’t coming. not by video. maybe im wrong.

just consider how many real bodies you’ve watched die in the past 2-3 years alone. how many more bodies can you see?

yet and still, i know that i’m glad these videos exist. they’re proof our deaths are not fictions.

if we must die,
let us not die as fictions.

maybe one day, i’ll begin to force myself to watch a black man be snuffed out on camera again but can’t now.

but i know some should still watch the videos. some still have to see a body with holes in it. just so they can believe it’s true.

but “blessed are they who have not seen and yet have believed.”
