Wait, are the Karens the ones flouting the rules? I thought they were the ones enforcing them... https://www.thecut.com/2020/05/why-amy-cooper-called-the-cops.html
All the feminist encomia on behalf of difficult, rambunctious, bossy, bitchy women down the tubes in about four months of meme-ing….
The fact that she is UWS Trump-hating Resistance dogmom is being cited as more evidence on behalf of the now ubiquitous Get Out narrative that the really evil white people are precisely the ostensibly liberal ones.
I see it as somewhat different. Because she is steeped in progressive media, she has been marinating in various iterations of the "X while black" narrative for years.
When she was faced with what she regarded as a fight or flight situation, confronted by what, let's be real, was an extremely weird and creepy gesture of a strange man telling her "you're not going to like this" and reaching for treats that he keeps for this purpose...
She disgorged the contents of her subconscious, and stepped into the very role of what she thought would give her the upper hand in that situation -- and thus became one with the progressive memeplex in a manner similar to "stereotype threat"
A lot of people saying "this just proves that society reflexively preserves and protects whiteness against blackness" -- all while exulting over stories about how her life has been destroyed.
The protectiveness she showed toward her dog was the protectiveness mothers show toward their children -- the "mama grizzly" instinct that we are supposed to admire displaced onto a pet
All of this occurring within context of both society programming women to regard men as a danger, and black men more so -- and the real fact that women ARE vulnerable relative to strange men who act like creeps in a park while alone with them in a park.
Now, this man is a Harvard graduate and talks like it -- you can hear the languid self-possession in his voice. You can also see it in the tweedy ensembles he's been photographed in. He's no physical danger to her.
But women, in addition to marinating in a culture valorizing their fear, are by nature more threat sensitive tham men. They are more sensitive to and concerned with the dangers posed by environmental toxins, they are more sensitive to physical threat posed by men.
They are therefore the shock troops and enforcers of the social pressure behind lockdowns.
In this case we had a Franzenesque encounter between a self-righteous birder who sees the unleashed dog as a moral emergency, and a UWS Resistance dogmom in Central Park. And we see who actually has the cultural power behind them.
