“Wellness” has become a widely popular term among fitness/health communities recently. The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as “the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health”; it’s multidimensional!
intro to wellness —

Wellness is actually 6-fold...

- physical health
- mental health
- spiritual health
- emotional health
- social health
- environmental health

Working on all these areas is what makes wellness come full circle.

Of course, wellness manifests itself differently for all those who practice. However, the end goal is essentially the same: a better you in all 6 previously mentioned areas.

Since wellness is so largely confused with health, the mental aspect is often skipped over. As one of the 6 pillars, mental and spiritual health is highly prioritized.
wellness —

Personally, I practice wellness through meditation, physical exercise, taking vitamins daily, staying hydrated, reading, prioritizing sleep, and nourishing my body via healthy food.
health and wellness crossover —

Although health and wellness are often incorrectly interchanged, there is a bit of an overlap between the two. Ultimately, practicing wellness results in a healthier lifestyle and healthier state of being.

“Health” is the overall physical and mental state of a person, often achieved via wellness practices.

For example, my physical health has improved via physical fitness. I stretch and exercise daily, as well as practice yoga three times a week.
health —

I also make an effort to eat clean while still allowing occasional indulgence using intuitive and mindful eating tactics. This way, I can eat as clean as possible while still having treats whenever I want!
closing —

All in all, wellness is about listening to your body and doing what’s best for yourself in the healthiest ways. Be that providing the proper nutrition via organic foods, taking a day off of working out due to soreness, or journaling your thoughts. Health is relative!
