Last week @Shopify announced ‘Digital by Default’

We're going remote

I was instantly bullish

Four reasons why 👇🏼
1/ The Rewards of Pioneering

With time more companies will go remote

We learn how to do it first. How to build. How to lead. How to work.

This is valuable for Shopify

It's also valuable for our careers beyond Shopify
2/ Dislocation of Income & Location

History is the story of mankind migrating the globe chasing economic opportunity

We’re untethering from this constraint

Our ancestors would be awestruck

Do your life's work + live your best life

It's no longer a tradeoff
3/ Rebalancing Face Time

I’ve spent more time with colleagues than I have with my kids

More dinners out with colleagues than with my wife

This makes me sad

Now I can do great work with great people while maximizing face time with the people I love most

This feels right
4/ Successful As Novices

Remote work is working well

In the middle of a pandemic

With no time to prepare

With no experience

With poor tools

It's working and we're not even good at it yet

I'm mesmerized by how well we'll do in the future
