*Appreciation tweet/General thoughts about the series
Honestly, the narrative of this story is just amazing. I mean, I don't get why people keep hating on this series. Yeah sure, it doesn't have a lot of touchy moments but that's the beauty of it. It takes us ---
--- down this realistic path of a relationship of two characters who are the exact opposite of each other and the journey of one's self discovery as he tries to come to terms with his sexuality. Aside from the given social relevance ---
--- it already has due to the overall message being "love knows no gender", this series also successfully tackled the issue regarding hazing traditions. As we all know, this series aired back in 2016. At that time, hazing was not only controversial in Thailand but, in other ---
--- countries as well. But interestingly, 2016 was also the year when the call to end hazing was renewed in Thailand. This series portrayed both the positive and negative aspects of the SOTUS system. However, rather than completely leaning towards the pro or the con, ---
--- this series was able to try and make things meet in the middle. It tried to make the viewers understand the middle ground regarding this issue. The author didn't decide to take a stand as he/she only stated facts and observations. Well personally, this series said that it's
--- not the SOTUS system that's completely at fault for the issues that's happened. But, it's the abuse of power that those above you hold. If both parties understand the cons of this system and reform it then, that's when they can get the utmost benefit from the system. ---
--- Although, this would be much clearer in SOTUS S when Kongpop became head hazer.
(I'll make another thread for SOTUS S btw)
EPISODE 1
(1) The nostalgia. Seriously, this series made me remember my freshman days. The feeling of first meeting the seniors and the first impressions they had of them was relatable af. Thank goodness though that we weren't initiated like they were.
(2) Arthit's favorite student and number 👀💗
(3) This scene kinda made me uncomfortable when I first watched it cuz this could actually be considered as harassment but then, I realized that hazing itself is harassment no matter how lowkey some claim it to be. Although this isn't as intense as the extreme stuff that ---
(4) --- we see in the news (like death, drowning, etc), props to this series for not sugarcoating that this is the way some hazers actually exercise their authority to the juniors.
(5) This series is mainly character driven. There are mainly no outside conflicts but rather, internal ones that they have to deal with as their relationship progresses. This part tells a lot about Arthit's character. He's conflicted with his sexuality but, because ---
(6) --- he has been taught by society that the "normal" thing is for guys to like girls, I feel this is probably why he thought it was fun to tease Kongpop like this.
(7) LOOK AT THAT NUMBER OF EXTRAS FOR THIS SCENE. DAMN.
(8) THIS SCENE? ICONIC 👏👏👏
(9) Oh look, it's Kao and his mom.
(Watch Dark Blue Kiss if you wanna know the reference)
(10) Off's character in this series is such a crack. 😂
(11) Arthit calling out a random number? A scam. The only number he knows is 0062 😏
(12) Another scene which tells a lot about Arthit's personality. Also, this scene foreshadows two things. One is that he's also gonna be made to run 54 laps and two is that he's gonna fcking do it cuz he ain't going back on his word to one of his juniors.
