Okay so I haven't used this site in years but I'm logging on to make a very important thread: my dad is a gamer. and it's amazing. here's why.
My dad is a 40-ish year old guy with a great sense of humor. For years he has played this mobile game called Hill Climb Racing. In fact, my entire family used to play it together. There's a 2.0 version released that we all played for a while, but now it's just him.
It's a simple enough game to play. You drive a vehicle through tons of obstacles, race other online players, and win things to upgrade your vehicles or buy new ones with different specialties.
So, there's a feature on the game where you can create a "team" of a ton of online players and compete in races in things. My dad created his own team called USA Dads. Specifically to attract fathers who are from the USA and play the game.
It's a simple enough thing, but it's really amazing the stories he has with these people in his team. He says, "It's nice to have a place where I'm respected as a leader, and whatever I say is policy." He originally wanted to kick out anyone who joined that-
-wasn't American or wasn't a dad. However, he's loosened up a little bit. Now, on to the important bits. There is a player in his team who races under the name Alice. My dad asked if Alice was a dad, because he wasn't entirely sure if Alice was a man at all.
It turns out that the player Alice raced under his daughter's name. She passed away at a young age and so he continues to play this game for her, living on her legacy. He always tries to rank high in the games, because the higher he is, the more people will see her name.
Though my dad doesn't chat often, he's created a really wholesome bond with some of his teammates through this little mobile game. Some of his members are even popular YouTubers, and he has subscribed to a few of them.
It's actually adorable some of the things that happens with his, quote, "gaming buddies." One of his members ended up kicking his own son out of the team because he didn't do his homework. I mean, if you join a team with a bunch of dads, what can you expect?
He was talking to me today and it's really just a wholesome story that I thought should be shared. He even said he wanted to get a Discord to chat with some of them, but that they probably don't even know what that is.
There's not really a big meaning to this thread, I just thought it was super cool that my dad is interacting with people online like that, especially since he's making lots of cool friends along the way. :)
