Recently, I had experience with a woman whose behavior was very similar *in my opinion* to that of Amy Cooper aka #CentralParkKaren. #AThread

I was in #NorthCarolina visiting someone who’s known me for nearly 30 years. I had previously walked through their subdivision w/no incidents or backlash at all. #CentralParkKaren

On Sunday, April 19 at 6:21 PM EST, a police officer pulled up in the area where I was walking. He parked along the corner of the house of a woman with whom I had a very distinct conversation. #CentralParkKaren

That woman was/is #KelliWhittaker, the owner of @YourDayByMe. Apparently, she took issue with a Black woman walking in her neighborhood. Who would’ve thought? #CentralParkKaren

Do you know what’s so ironic? She did what countless privileged White women have done throughout history. She feigned friendliness and pleasantries, asking if I was visiting the area. Making “small talk”. #CentralParkKaren

Mind you, I had convos w/others as they walked by. One dog ran near me and stood there. The owner came out of her house and thanked me for helping her to find her playful fur baby. #CentralParkKaren

#KelliWhittaker actually stood and talked to me while holding her dog. Her dog did not bark at me and actually wanted to play w/me. Animals can discern good people. #CentralParkKaren

I specifically mentioned that I live in Cali when I spoke to #KelliWhittaker. Ironically, that’s the first thing the cop told me as he approached me. I knew she was the culprit. #CentralParkKaren

Plus, about four white people were standing in front of her home gazing in my direction. Almost like they were giddy to see a Black person have the cops called on them. #CentralParkKaren

I guess I fit the description of their fake fragility: tall Black woman wearing a head wrap, black tank top & black slacks w/a book bag. If I looked like #DylanKlebold, the cops never would’ve been called.

I spoke very calmly and matter-of-factly to the officer. I told him that I knew that my race was a factor in him being called. He tried to diminish it but I was resolute in my statement. After all, this is AMERICA.

This is a country where White women know that they can pick up their phone, change the treble in their voice and infuse a quiver in a heartbeat when it comes to Black people.

However, this entire country was built on OUR backs. I adamantly refuse to be treated like I’m a criminal. The cop knew as much.

He initially asked me for my ID. I never gave it to him. By the end of the convo, we were chuckling and even shook hands. #KelliWhittaker, your plan didn’t work. White fragility LOST.

Not everyone’s story ends as well as mine did. And even though there is no hash tag in front of my name, the actions of people like #KelliWhittaker reflect the absolute WORST parts of America.

#KelliWhittaker, if you even have a conscience, I pray that you will examine your soul and the repugnant behavior that you demonstrated. Your entitlement issues run DEEP.

And stop calling the cops on Black people. The world is SMALL, #KelliWhittaker. Apparently, you’ve got a track record as you called the cops on some African-American residents in your community as well.
