The idea of an Islamic politics centered around the Shari’ purpose of “benefit for humanity in this world and the next” is viewed as archaic or anachronistic in today’s secular world.
The objections are many but lie also in the objective “...the next world.” This is nearly incomprehensible and inaudible in most societies in the world.
The modern world is a disenchanted world. The past few hundred years have seen massive advances in technology, sciences, health but the how have we progressed in morals, values, ethics and humanity?
Some will argue and point to the abolition of slavery, the spread of democracy, freedom of religion, decrease in poverty, longevity and much more as indicators of progress.
There’s no doubt that the abolition of pre-modern slavery was a good though clearly modern slavery exists but many aspects/assumptions of the claims re: how that occurred need to be analyzed and unpacked
The other claims to progress and the whole teleological view of human progress itself needs to be analyzed and questioned. Many have done so.
There are many subjects and directions we can go here. But I am interested in this thread to look at the community of the Prophet Muhammad.
Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
