Several student groups, including Incite Insight Magazine and UCSB Grads Mobilize, came together a year after the tragic shooting in IV to publish a special edition of their magazine in remembrance of the students who lost their lives and lessons the community
has learned. The zine includes tributes to the six students, poems and essays that analyze the culture of entitlement and misogyny. Many students were upset with the media for sensationalizing the tragedy and not being sensitive of the community's need for space and healing.
This zine gave voices to the students who needed to express their pain. Here is an excerpt from Shari Sanders's, a PhD candidate, piece entitled: "I Remember Isla Vista and I Am Asking":

"In the rush of emotion and will to bring change, I ask people to remember Isla Vista. Remember that this community is sophisticated, multi-vocal, and organized. Remember that this community is made of many communities, and remember that, in a time when many were overwhelmed by
their understandably emotional responses, Isla Vista remained focused, determined and compassionate. Isla Vista's communities know what they need. They know what they want. They know what they do not want.
Before I move to help Isla Vista in the coming weeks and months, I will remember to ask Isla Vista. As a UCSB graduate student and TA, it is not my responsibility to educate Isla Vista any more than it was my responsibility to protect Isla Vista.
It is my responsibility to as Isla Vista: what are your needs moving forward, and can I hel in any way as you address those needs? As the university decides next steps, I am walking two roads. I remember, Isla Vista. And I am asking."
