Here's the truth for white Americans. @realDonaldTrump got us right when he said we don't recognize our country anymore. What we need to realize is that we don't recognize it because that America never existed.

We're being awakened from a dream that was another man's nightmare.

Our America was a lie we told ourselves, a myth we repeated so we could sleep at night, while the bones of our brothers shook in their graves.

We built our costly, heartless freedom on the enslavement and incarceration of our fellow man. #GeorgeFloyd

It was never indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Some of us never knew justice: had to die for it. Some of us sacrificed our liberty for the deadly liberty of the wealthy white man.

#GeorgeFloyd choked to death. He couldn't breathe. #Covid_19 is exposing our dearth of compassion, our disregard of life and humanity. One man dies in a Minneapolis street with a police officer's knee on his neck. Another dies at home, alone, afraid to pay for a doctor visit.

The golf game goes on. The stock ticker keeps scrolling. Investment accounts grow. Black sedans drive to country homes. Another one is pardoned. The amazing thing is that he was ever held accountable to begin with.

Flags fly high. Soldiers march off to war surrounded by vast metal armaments. We were once the greatest. The battle has been to be good. We're losing.
