I'd appreciate the current SBC debacle's similarities with the Conservative Resurgence in the 1980s if I thought anyone was learning anything from it.
False accusations of liberalism, targeted professors, ignorant accusers, downgrade warnings, concerned eyewitness testimony, secular politics ... "How could someone accuse Mohler, Aiken, and Moore of liberalism?" That's what people asked about Dilday, Hobbs, and Moody.
Let's say the FoundersMin etc. became top SBC leaders. What would they do? Appoint like-minded trustees to appoint like-minded profs & begin rewriting SBC history. From then on they'd say they saved the SBC for the bible from liberalism, CRT, post-modernism, & egalitarianism.
Three more points on this: 1) It's interesting to see some of those being attacked for liberalism these days were the ones who did similar if not worse things in the past.
2) Most will refuse to admit they were suckered into approving of the Conservative Resurgence, even as they question how anyone can believe the current accusations. That's fine. The important thing is to reject that behavior in the future. Which brings me to the final point ...
3) If you think the only reason it's wrong for the current victims to be attacked is because they *really* are conservative and not *really* liberal, then you're just as bad as Harris, Fuller, Ascol or Patterson. And your time will come.
