1/ Police Culture lacks true masculinity. Until that is addressed, incidents like #GeorgeFloyd #MinneapolisPD will continue.
Let me put my #behavioralEconomics hat on and explain by contrasting police culture with #Boxing culture

2/ There are fairly universal rules of engagement in most boxing gyms when it comes to #sparring
Throw bombs. Get bombs thrown back. Is a common one.
Not posting sparring footage on social is often another.
Not going all out on fighters levels below you is a big one...

3/ Boxers more advanced who constantly pick to spar, then go “all out” on novice fighters will almost always get called out for it.
The same happens if boxers post sparring footage beating up on fighters far below their skill level.
This behavior is almost universally checked

4/ Why?
First, it’s understood that sparring is about getting better. Working on your craft. Not beating someone up.
Second, because of #1, anyone who constantly picks on less skilled fighters are acting very contrary to the spirit of the sport.
They’re being cowards.

5/ It’s no secret that bullying comes from a place of insecurity and weakness.
Complete opposite characteristics of true masculinity and the spirit of boxing.
This is why kids who box are more likely to fight a bully than be one.

6/ This dynamic is what gives boxers and others within that culture the freedom to check and self police those within their culture who violate these rules.
They don’t want cowards being confused as a representation of the sport they love.
Which brings me to police officers...

7/ In the name of the blue veil of silence and loyalty, Police officers will watch their partners...
Body slam 120lb women or stick their knee on the neck or down and restrained men who can’t defend themselves until they die.
These are undeniably cowardly behaviors.

8/ Unfortunately, police attracts a some individuals with deeply rooted insecurities.
Many may have been bullied in school.
They may have been made to feel helpless and weak.
And they simply get off on exuding a level of power they’ve never been able to have on an even field

9/ A majority of police officers didn’t take the job to act out deep rooted, childhood insecurities on those who can’t defend themselves.
But until those ones start to check the cowards within their ranks who did take the job for that reason, these incidents will continue.

10/ Until then, they will remain a contributor to the cowardly culture their profession has come to represent.
Because at the end of the day, rather you’re the bully or the person too scared to check the bully, you’re still cut from different sides of the same cowardly cloth.
