NYC Audubon is outraged by the racist attack towards our beloved board member Christian Cooper in Central Park. We are so grateful that he is unharmed.

How do we encourage environmental engagement if this is what a person of color might expect? NYC Audubon is working with Christian to ensure that birding in NYC is safe for Black birders. We are focused on the future of urban conservation and strive to engage all communities.

NYC Audubon wholeheartedly supports Christian Cooper’s passionate efforts to protect wild birds and the healthy habitat they and we need to thrive. Routine enforcement of leash laws in public parks and natural areas is needed and will help avoid future confrontations.
