So story time about how a white woman lied and almost got me and my husband in serious trouble at our last institution. The power of white women tears.
So, there was a Facebook post made by someone in my husband’s former department and it was filled with lies and inaccuracies. So i commented a correction, so did my husband, and many others. Nothing vile or anything.
So fast forward the next week, my husband is now the center of a rumor that “he perpetuates rape culture and threatened” this girl in his department.
Then, this same student found a tweet by someone else, cropped out the twitter handle and photo saying that i tweeted “I’m going to fuck your up”.
She then proceeded to go to threat assessment office and say that i threatened her and so did my husband (then just boyfriend). Then she went around his department turning everyone against him who would listen.
I had to go to the dean of students because i was like “oh hell no!” And he got the ombudsman involved and everything.
I clear my shit up quickly because it was easily proven she lied about me tweeting a threatening message to her. (Cause also, if i got shit to say: i don’t subtweet ima just say it.)
But then my husband, his advisor, the other girl, and her advisor all had a meeting with the ombudsman. In that meeting said student begins to cry AGAIN and trying to blame my husband after he proved she was lying.
She continued to say she just felt so threatened by him. And because he disagreed with her he was a misogynist. And all this other shit. She was shaking and didn’t even have to apologize for lying on two Black folx at the institution.
This student LIED! Got the threat assessment office, student conduct, and advisors involved all because she legit could. And received no consequences.
Had my husband and i NOT known the systems in place we could activate to legit protect our ass and had i not worked for the chief diversity officer at the time, i legit don’t know what woulda happened.
The power of white women’s tears and how they are wielded at any given moment is disgusting and dangerous. It’s literally a lesson they’ve been taught to do. And watching that video of Amy Cooper just reminded me and triggered me how quickly it can happen.
