AOC says the term "human capital" has its roots in slavery. She& #39;s simply wrong. Adam Smith, the first person to define "human capital", used it to mean "acquired skills" -- exactly the same way it& #39;s used today.

Note that Hassett did use the term "human capital stock" wrong. As per the first line of the Wikipedia page, a human capital stock is a stock of skills, not a bunch of workers.

But the term is NOT rooted in slavery.
