One of my favourite stories is that of the Lovell telescope and a fax machine (yep, me neither) intercepting Luna 9 to grab a cheeky pic of the Moon’s surface. More detail here

Ironically, that webcam shot of the Moon won’t be much worse than if the Lovell had taken it. Lots of people ask to ‘look through the telescope’. Can’t do that, I’m afraid with radio waves not being visible and all...but if you could it’d be potato quality for making images.

It’s great for many other things though, like discovering pulsars...and they’re way more interesting than the Moon. Genuinely the craziest things aside from black holes. Here’s a pretty cool video explaining what they are
